In the final of the Wheelchair Basketball match between the Netherlands and Great Britain, the Netherlands managed to take the gold. From the beginning of the game, the Netherlands put immediate pressure on Great Britain. With Bo Kramer (20 points) and Mariska Beijer (12 points) among others as standouts, it was difficult for Great Britain to get out from under this pressure. The Brits continued to resist, with R. Love (10 points) and J. Atkin (9 points) creating some danger. Unfortunately for Great Britain this was to no avail and the difference was too big. The Netherlands won the game 58-36 and is now European Champion!

In the second quarter, the Netherlands started strong again. This time it was Mariska Beijer who was dangerous several times and with success. Great Britain started to make some more mistakes themselves, creating spaces for the Netherlands. With 2 hit free throws by Mariska Beijer in the last minute, the Netherlands lead 28-15.

In a nearly sold-out RTM stage, the Netherlands led 13-9 after quarter 1. The Netherlands started the game offensively and led 4-0 fairly quickly, with Bo Kramer taking the lead. Great Britain knuckled back and coped well with the Netherlands’ pressure. Both countries now start quarter 2.

Only in the last quarter the difference was made, making it exciting until the last second. With a 49 – 48 victory, Spain secured 3rd place and the bronze medal.

At the final of the 10m Air riffle prone SH1 (Mixed), a world record was achieved. Veronika Vadovicova (SVK) achieved this record with a score of 255.7. With this she also managed to earn her gold medal. Juan Antonio Saverda Reinaldo was 2nd with a score of 636.8 and Matt Skelhon was 3rd, also with a score of 636.8.

What an exciting first half that was! While Germany had problems getting into the game, Spain had a great start. Spanish Ortega and Zudaire both scored double digits already with 12 and 11 points respectively. After the first half Spain leads over Germany 28:15. In the Para Cycling section MH 4/5, it remained exciting until the very end. Mitch Valize and Thomas Frühwirth went neck and neck until the last seconds. With a 2 second margin Mitch took the victory and claimed the gold. Thomas had to settle for silver and bronze went to Loic Vergnaud.

In the Wheelchair Basketball between France and Turkey, there was a hard fought battle for the 5th spot. France had the initiative right from the start and this immediately resulted in a large lead. France continued this line and led 28-10 halfway through the match. France did not back down and managed to win the match with clear figures (57-23).

Para Archery training sessions are in full swing. Starting tomorrow, the Kop van Zuid will be the setting for the finals of Para Archery. Entrance to the Kop van Zuid is free, so don’t miss it!

In the battle for the 9th and 10th spots between Israel and Austria, Israel provided a handsome comeback. At the beginning of the final quarter, Austria was leading by 9 points and seemed to be in the lead. By winning quarter four 23-7, Israel managed to ensure a great comeback and secure spot 9.

Throughout the day Wheelchair Basketball clinics will be given on sports square 1. There are also Wheelchair Tennis clinics (09:30 – 12:30), Para Athletics clinics (13:00 – 16:00) and Frame Soccer clinics (16:30 – 19:30). These clinics will take place on sports square 2.

In addition, a House of Esports area in the Sports Plaza and a Fitness Container at the entrance to Ahoy will be available from 10:00. The Para Badminton are packed today with numerous quarterfinals. In one of the quarterfinals between Loquette of France and Wilson of Scotland, things went very evenly in the 1st set. The Frenchman eventually won 23-21. Wilson’s resistance was broken and in the 2nd set the difference was much bigger. Loquette qualified for the semifinals. 21-14 was the score in the 2nd set.

At the Willem-Alexander Baan, Heidi Gaugain took the win to her in the WC 1-5 category. Heidi proved 20 seconds faster than her competitor Kerstin Brachtendorf. Third place went to Claudia Cretti with a time of 15:09.

In Shooting Para Sport, it is Spaniard Ager Txakartegi Solabarrieta who is very happy after his shots with a points total of 578.1. Txakartegi has shot a qualifying world record and a qualifying European record with this insane point total! What can the Spaniard show in the next round?

In the battle for the 11th place, Switzerland displayed dominance from the onset against Latvia. The Swiss began with a commanding 24-10 lead in the 1st quarter, backed by a robust defense and contributions from various players. Latvia attempted a resurgence in the 2nd, yet struggled inside the paint, while Swiss players Haefeli and Binda emerged as key scorers. The halftime score stood at a convincing 40-20 in Switzerland’s favor. The 3rd quarter spotlighted Latvia’s Podnieks, who shone with 13 points, yet Latvia couldn’t close the gap, ending the quarter at 54-37. The final quarter showcased Binda and Hausammann’s scoring and playmaking, with Switzerland maintaining their 20-point cushion to conclude the game at 66-46. Switzerland’s balanced attack and strong defense were the defining elements of their victory.

In the RWQ final, Kliem and Shevchenko are tied 1-1. They make it an exciting final, as it is 3-3 after 3 rounds of shooting. But in the fourth round of shooting, the Ukrainian shoots herself to a 5-3 lead. The match gets very exciting as after 5 rounds of shooting the ladies are tied at 5-5. After a shoot-out, Kliem has officially qualified her for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris!

The battle for the third spot is also tied between the two ladies after 1 round. Poimenidou leads 5-3 after 4 rounds of shooting. As in the final, it comes down to a shoot-out. After a shoot-out, it is Greek Poimenidou who walks away with the victory!

After the semifinals, the (bronze) finals immediately begin at the CWQ. After one round, Italy’s Sarti and Poland’s Markitantova are still tied by a score of 28-28. In the second round of shooting, Sarti manages to stay ahead of Markitantova by one point (56-55). After this, Sarti is unbeatable and manages to extend her lead even further. After 5 rounds she can call herself the winner (144-140)! Sarti and Markitantova may also go to the 2024 Paralympic Games!

The battle for third place in this category is still exciting with a score of 27-26 in favor of Italy’s Virgilio against Ireland’s Leonard. Virgilio is only further ahead of Leonard and she manages to take the win after 5 rounds. With this victory Virgilio secures the bronze medal (136-134)

Cyclist Joseph Fritsch won the world title with the French team a week ago in Glasgow, Scotland, and has now added the European title to his record of achievements.

Switzerland surges ahead in the battle for 11th place, dominating the 1st quarter with a formidable 14-point lead, 24-10. In today’s first Para Cycling event, the men’s Tandems, Tristan Bangma (NED) secured a gold medal. On the Willem-Alexander Baan, he crossed the line first with a time of 17:59. Second was Vincent ter Schure (NED) with a time of 18:28 and 19 seconds later Christian venge Balboa (ESP) finished.

There will be cycling all weekend at the Willem-Alexander Baan, with completely free entry.

In 10 minutes the finals of Para Archery RWQ & CWQ will be on the program. It is the last day that Para Archery will take place outside next to Rotterdam Ahoy. Starting tomorrow and on Sunday, Para Archery will be free of charge at the Kop van Zuid.

On Friday morning, the semi-finals of the Para Archery CWQ take place where Poland’s Markitantova shoots against Ireland’s Leonard. After several rounds of shooting Markitantova leads with a lead of 111-106, after the last round she manages to walk away with the win.

In the other semifinal, it is the two Italians Virgilio and Sarti who face each other. It is Sarti who comes away with the win and gets to take on Markitantova in the final.

This morning at 9:00 am the Road Races at the Para Cycling started at the Willem-Alexander Baan. Both the men’s and women’s races will feature 3 rounds of cycling with a total distance of 15 kilometers covered.
