Mother and European champion: boccia player Carla Oliveira shows it can be done

Portugal’s Carla Oliveira is the new European Boccia champion in the BC4 category. For Oliveira, the European title is extra special because she has only just returned to the competition floor. In fact, her last competition, the World Cup in Povoa de Varzim, was in July 2022. Since then, she quitted training and competing because of pregnancy. The Portuguese player gave birth to a baby daughter in November 2022 and doubted whether she would return to the sport she loves so much. In December she made the switch: her sights were set on Rotterdam and the European title. With the image of a place on the highest podium in mind, she started training for the European Championships. In Rotterdam she made her dream come true.
