Davina Michelle is set to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the European Para Championships on Monday 7 August. The Rotterdam native will be an important part of the show kicking off the event.
The 27-year-old Rotterdam artist, who launched a YouTube channel in 2016 that now has over 1.5 million subscribers, has been featured frequently at major sporting events in recent years. Davina Michelle broke through in 2018 with her cover of ‘What About Us’ by P!nk.
Since her breakthrough, she launched a stream of hit singles, including hits such as Duurt Te Lang, Better Now, Beat Me and My Own World. Through notable collaborations, unique and high-profile performances and hits, Davina Michelle has quickly made her mark on the Dutch music landscape.
During the opening ceremony of the European Para Championships, she will give an impressive performance that has a powerful aura, but at the same time shows her vulnerable and versatile side. Her performance will be enhanced by a spectacular visual show. The audience can look forward to an experience full of energy where Davina Michelle will bring her music to life in a unique way.
“I feel it is very important to perform at the European Para Championships, especially because of my connection to the core values of the event,” said Davina Michelle. “I stand for strength, endurance, perseverance and pushing boundaries. I believe these values are an excellent fit with the mentality and commitment of the athletes who push their own limits to achieve top performances in Rotterdam.”
Tournament director Jeroen Straathof is pleased that the organization was able to invite Davina Michelle for the opening ceremony. “She endorses the unique character of our event and finds it important to make a musical contribution to the movement we all started,” says Straathof. “In addition, she is from Rotterdam. But like the European Para Championships, she also has a strong international appeal thanks to her performances at the Eurovision Song Contest and the F1 Grand Prix Zandvoort, among others.”
In addition to Davina Michelle, British Viktoria Modesta, known worldwide as the “world’s first amputee pop artist,” will also perform at the opening ceremony. There will also be plenty of room for dancing and several speeches, among other things. Among others, Princess Margriet and Andrew Parsons, the president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) will officially open the tournament.
