Italian archer Elisabetta Mijno has shattered a world record in the women’s Open Recurve 70-meter class during the European Para Championships in Rotterdam. Mijno set a new standard with an impressive 674 points during the qualifications, eclipsing the previous record of 657 points held by Iranian Zahra Nemati since May 2015.
At 37, Mijno, demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout her series of 72 arrows. By the midway point, her score of 344 had already positioned her well ahead of the record. Insiders have lauded her 674 point-total as extraordinary, noting that such a score could also command a strong standing in the Olympics. Mijno’s archery prowess is further exemplified by her collection of three Paralympic medals, which includes an individual silver from London 2012.
Mijno: “You must have an insatiable desire to win, which is not a thing taken for granted. I set specific goals for this competition, and I’m glad they went well. Achieving the world record was an added bonus. I’m very happy.”
She is thrilled with her performance at the start of the European Para Championships 2023 in Rotterdam. “My aim is to consistently perform better, to savor the small victories that come day by day, and to avoid getting sidetracked. I believe in taking things one step at a time, and I prefer to continue in this manner.”
Held adjacent to Ahoy, the European Para Archery Championships will continue until Sunday, where the finals will be held this weekend at Kop van Zuid. These championships are part of the European Para Championships, which feature title tournaments across ten sports.
