RMC Personenvervoer will be the official transport partner of the more than 2,000 athletes and coaching staff during the European Para Championships 2023 in Rotterdam (8-20 August). The partnership means RMC will take the transport issues, direction and execution of services off the organisers’ hands. RMC will take up residence in Ahoy during the event to manage the day-to-day operations.
Gerry Oosterbaan, director of RMC, is delighted with the cooperation: “As a company with Rotterdam roots, a partnership with the EPC is in line with our mission: Mobility is freedom. On every conceivable level, every day. With the help of our transport solutions, our travelers can remain part of society. With this cooperation, EPC participants can prepare to deliver a top performance without worrying about transport.”
Transport during an event like the European Para Championships is a challenging task. More than 2,000 athletes and staff will use transport, many of whom are wheelchair-bound. This requires specific knowledge and procedures. RMC has experience in transporting travelers with disabilities. It will use 25 coaches, 15 sponsored cars and 15 wheelchair taxi vans, among others, which will be used in an integrated manner.
Transport will include shuttles, team transport and demand-driven transport. The project team at Ahoy consists of experienced planners who have organized major events before, including the Eurovision Song Contest, the World Police Fire Games and the MTV awards.
Jeroen Straathof, tournament director of the European Para Championships, is delighted with the cooperation: “With RMC as a specialized transport partner, we can be assured that all athletes and supervisors will reach their destination in a safe and comfortable manner. We are very pleased with this cooperation and look forward to a successful event.”
