A few months ago, British taekwondoka Beth Munro told her performance manager that she wanted to win as many golds as possible in 2023. Munro, who surprisingly won silver at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, is well on her way to achieving that goal. On Tuesday she added the European title in the -65kg category to her tally.
Since winning Paralympic silver in Tokyo, a lot has changed for the British taekwondoka. She not only wrote history in Japan, but also became a role model for young British athletes with disabilities. Still, she regrets that paralympic sport does not receive the same attention as Olympic sport. But there is hope, according to Munro, who describes the European Para Championships as an important step in that direction.
