With still four complete days of competition ahead the European Para Championships have already reached an incredible number of one million live stream views on TikTok. The collaboration between the European Para Championships and TikTok, the entertainment platform for sharing short videos, has been a big success since the first day of the event in Rotterdam, on Tuesday, August 8. Especially the live streaming of the Goalball matches, a sport played by blind or visually impaired athletes, were very popular on the TikTok account @europarachamps.
At the European Para Championships, from August 8 to 20 in Rotterdam, athletes compete in ten different sports for the European titles. The Goalball matches on August 11 not only managed to attract a significant number of 411.000 live viewers, but the engagement of the audience with the account was also exceptional.
Tournament Director Jeroen Straathof is thrilled about the results. “The partnership with TikTok allows us to give parasports a stage with an incredible reach within a relatively young audience. We can thus plant a seed in the minds of the sports fans of the future. TikTok gives us more visibility. This is unique in parasports, we are proud.”
Since the start of the event, the official TikTok account of the European Para Championships has attracted big attention. This illustrates the growing interest in para sports in general. Throughout the tournament, there’s a lot to see on the entertainment platform: from behind-the-scenes footage to warm-up images, highlights of the matches, and reactions from the athletes. Through the hashtag #EPC2023, fans can find and share all event-related content. Moreover, this can be found on the official #EPC2023 Search Hub, where all the latest posts from the organization, the official broadcasters, and teams & athletes are bundled together.
The next days there will be more sporting highlights, with the Wheelchair Basketball tournament rolling on, and sports like Para Taekwondo and Para Cycling coming up. The wheelchair semi-finals and finals, cycling relay and road races, archery, shooting and badminton finals will be live on TikTok.
